Sergio Pagliai was born in Florence on Dec.26, 1947

In the 60’s and 70’s he worked in several pottery workshops in Florence and its surroundings.

In 1978 he started his own pottery workshop.

In 1982 he moved to Bergamo district where he continued working as a ceramist and started teaching young people and adults from local schools.

In the meantime he devoted himself to the experimentation of different materials, new oven procedures and the enamels he himself produced.

As soon as technology allowed the production of light and portable ovens, he took his handicraft to streets and squares – the origin of the outdoor workshop is when, besides watching the craftman, one could also take active part in the production of pottery. He then began to take part in street festivals, private parties, artistic exhibitions and demonstrations in Italy and abroad.

In 1992 he moved to a new residence and left his “job” as a crftman in order to devote himself to his new house and garden. However, he still delights in handling clay, enamels and fire.

Now he often cooperates with other ceramists, artists and sculptors, teaching and learning and exchanging experiences.

He also keeps taking part in festivals and exhibitions, in places such as:

Castelrotto, Ortisei, Pordoi, Gardone Riviera, Castello di Vezio (Varenna), Bellinzona, Castello di Poppiano, Mezzago, Cerete, Valmadrera, Bobbio, Uster (Zurich), Lovere, Kandersteg (Bern)
